Chrysalis #1 is the first in a series of five pieces representing the stage in the life cycle of a butterfly during which the caterpillar becomes a chrysalis, or pupa, before emerging as an adult butterfly.
Made with red stoneware clay, Chrysalis #1 is decorated with coloured slips and underglazes, and overlaid with a lichen glaze before being fired to cone 6 (2200F/1200C).
